Our Story
Five Mountain Brewing Company started very simply- it all started with a beer.
Not our beer, but a one time can release. As Brent was sitting in line with Melissa’s brother Matt on a cold February day, he wondered what poor choices led him to this point. All that was put aside when he tasted the end result. It was unlike any other beer he had ever tasted. Unfortunately, there was a rapidly dwindling supply of that beer in the world, and he was partly to blame for that. As he searched for something at least similar to replace it, he found that there wasn’t anything else close to the taste. Being the person he is, he decided to try his hand at homebrewing to at least try to get close. Somewhere along the way instead of it being about that particular beer, it became about the brewing process and the challenges that brewing presents.
Each new batch pushed him to expand and move into different methods of brewing. Starting with extract brewing, he quickly moved to 5 gallon all grain batches with igloo coolers, and then began to build his own brewing system out of old kegs. Each step of the way the next stage was being thought of as expansion was always on the horizon.

In the early months of 2018, Melissa and Brent were discussing the possibility of starting a small business. Everyone who is a homebrewer has at some point dreamed of opening a brewery. And so, armed with a dream, a shoestring budget, and stubbornness, they set forth on the adventure of Five Mountain Brewing Company.
Each step of the way presented challenges unlike anything they had faced before. Together they persevered and overcame with the help of friends. In October of 2018, Five Mountain Brewing Company opened its doors to the public with 5 kegs of beer brewed on the original homebrew equipment. The brewery equipment wasn’t ready yet!
After spending 3 years at our location next to Nino’s, it was time to move out. We had outgrown that location. In July of 2020, during the middle of a pandemic, the current location on Main street was purchased. Renovations of the upstairs apartment began while the larger renovations necessary in the downstairs were being drawn up with the architect. It would take a year of working in the evening to get the upstairs ready. Meanwhile, downstairs work began in February 2021. Walls were removed, a new bathroom was installed, the garage was replaced, and the back patio was built.
On New Years Eve, we said goodbye to our old location. It was an emotional moment. Some of our closest friendships were born in that location. Time marches on though, and a week later we moved the entire contents of the brewery from the old location to the new location in about 4 hours. It was an incredible feat only able to be accomplished by the help of so many.
Final touches were being made to the new location, and in February 2022 we opened in our new location. We are continually humbled and thankful for the support of the community that is Five Mountain Brewing Company. Without your support, Brent would still be a homebrewer in his garage and the many friendships that have blossomed would never have been.
Special thanks to our founders club members, and ultimate thanks to Melissa, who always believes in me and pushes me to be the best possible version of myself and has been there day in and day out to make this dream happen. - BH
